The importance of providing accurate details to your car insurance company

Brits are bombarded with irksome jingles for price comparison websites every time they switch on the TV or radio. It all seems so easy until a quick trip to one of these websites leads you on a tedious form-filling mission in which we are asked everything from our date of birth to our occupation.

It may seem futile, but the details asked by us insurance companies are extremely important, and the risks of providing incorrect details can be high.

Details about you

When you ask us for a car insurance quote, you will be asked about your driving licence– when did you gain your licence, what kind is it, has it been suspended for any reason and have you ever received any points on it? The relevance of these questions is fairly clear – we use the information to assess how safe you are as a driver based on statistics.

Until December last year, for example, female drivers had lower car insurance premiums because they are statistically safer drivers. However, EU legislation has meant that insurance providers can no longer discriminate between drivers based on their gender, which has led to many companies increasing the price of their car insurance for female drivers.

Your track record is also important, as it will help to determine the cost of your cover. Recent points on your licence are also likely to increase the cost of your insurance, as they show that you are potentially an unsafe driver. Similarly, any claims that you have made in the past are important for the company to determine how safe you are on the road.

We’ll also ask you your occupation, which again may seem irrelevant but it can be an indication to the insurance companies on how prudent the driver is. This is a result of studies that have proven that some occupations tend to be held by more careful drivers.

Details about your car

In addition to details about the driver, we need to know about the car you’ll be driving. If a car has a high vehicle safety rating, it may allow for a reduced premium because the risk of injury in a crash is reduced.

One of the most common pieces of information that people forget to tell us about is where they keep their vehicle. Students, for example, may be insured on a family car that is usually kept safely in the garage, but when they go off to university it could end up parked on a busy street in an area where crime is higher. Naturally, a higher risk of the car being broken into is likely to increase the insurance premium.

What happens if the details are incorrect?

When applying for a car insurance quote, drivers are strongly encouraged to check the details extremely carefully. While a piece of information may seem fairly irrelevant, it could be affecting the price of the cover.

The key area where people find trouble is when they forget to inform their insurance providers of any changes, especially minor changes (such as where the car is kept).

There are two main outcomes that can arise from not providing us with the correct details. The first is that we may ask you to pay the discrepancy between what you paid and what you should have paid. This can be surprisingly high, as small details can make a big difference when it comes to insurance.

The second problem is a little more serious and will only happen as a result of a serious discrepancy between the details that you provided and the correct details. This may result in the insurance being voided, which can have legal implications and a hefty fine.

If your cover is declared as void, it basically means that you have not been covered since the policy was taken out or since the details were incorrect. Since having car insurance is a legal requirement for any vehicle in the UK, other than those that are declared SORN (off the road), you could be charged for driving without insurance. Government guidelines say that the maximum fine for this is £1,000 and the vehicle could be impounded, that’s a lot of money and hassle for forgetting an important detail!

Again, any future insurance providers will need to be made aware of any incident such as this and it could increase future premiums.

When filling out one of our forms, it can be a good idea to get a family member or partner to double check the accuracy of the details and to check again yourself to avoid any issues. Keeping a list or print-out of all the details required could also remind you to contact us when any of those details change. If you have any questions, or are not sure what is important, you can call any one of our advisors and simply ask, we’re here to help make this as simple as we can for you.

Red Bull Stratos broke several world records and the sound barrier when skydiver Felix Baurngartner fell from space. Lynx sent a regular bloke into space with their Apollo Space Academy. And now…Emerge have stepped up to stake a claim in space. Since they don’t have the budgets of Lynx or Red Bull (given that they’re a 35p energy drink), they’re offering fans the chance to at least get their face in space – a kind of budget space expedition if you will.

Hence in their latest video, you’ll see a dude hitching a lift to space on a bunch of balloons, floating into the clouds to the smooth sounds of ‘The Joker’ by The Steve Miller Band.

So space cowboys, what are you waiting for - #YourFaceInSpace.

Simply visit their app http://apps.facebook.com/emergespace, upload a selfie and the winning face will be sent stratospheric for all their mates (and the world) to see. Let’s be realistic, it’s probably the closest you’ll ever get to becoming an astronaut!

Driving Sunglasses Review - Oakley Holbrook

I'm real fussy when it comes to what sunglasses I wear when driving. I've had aviators, wayfarers and wrap arounds over the years but this year I wanted to try out some polarised sunglasses. One big reason for this is because tests show that drivers stop quicker when wearing polarised lenses and when faced with a sudden obstacle. These days I often drive around with precious cargo - my two young boys so safety is a big consideration for me.

After much deliberation, I went with Oakley as I love their brand and style of glasses. As soon as I tried on Oakley Holbrook polarises sunglasses I loved them. Love the cool design, they are so comfortable and the difference with the polarised lenses is simply amazing. No more sun glare as the polarised lenses filter out every ray of UV giving clarity and protection. I live by the coast and these lenses give the sea and the sky so much more detail which is fantastic.

For anyone looking to buy a pair of driving sunglasses, I'd highly recommend Oakley polarised sunglasses to anyone.

For Ferrari fans, you might want to check out the Ferrari sunglasses collection here. The Oakley Scuderia sunglasses look pretty cool. Happy driving!

10 Classic Cars That Ooze Coolness

$

0
Classic cars in my opinion are the coolest cars because of their heritage and their designs that still look cool today as they did 40-50 years ago. Many of the following classic cars have been used in famous movies over the years and simply ooze coolness. Check these beauties out!

1964 Aston Martin DB5

It’s been the most iconic car throughout the James Bond movies, starring in “Thunderball” and “Goldfinger” alongside Sean Connery and the most recent bond movie, Skyfall. This famous car was created by Italian automobile coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.

E-Type Jaguar

Released in 1961, Enzo Ferrari described it as “the most beautiful car ever made.” It’s perfect for showing off whilst touring around the country. This E-Type Jaguar is king of the classical vintage cars.

1963 Jaguar XK-E Roadster. Source: Wikipedia

1967 Chevy Impala

“Here’s another legitimate reason for making up errands to run.” – 1967 Chevrolet brochure. This car is spacious and full of deluxe interior. But its style and comfort aren’t the only things it’s famous for. The Chevy Impala makes a regular appearance in the US series “Supernatural”.

Ferrari 250 GTO

The GTO is one of the top sport cars of all time. With its beautiful red looks and its blistering pace, everyone wanted one of their own. Sadly for most, they’d have to continue life without one as only 39 were made between 1962 and 1964. If this didn’t make it tricky enough to get hold of, Enzo Ferrari, along with North America, Luigi Chinetti, had to approve your application before buying it. Not difficult in the slightest. In 2012, the Ferrari 250 GTO became the world’s most expensive car after it sold for an eye-watering $35million.

Maserati 3500 GT

Not only does this look classy from the outside, the luxurious interior and electric windows were just as impressive in the 60s. And with a coupé body styled by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera and the engine designed by Alfieri, this car definitely gave Ferrari a fright.

1964-1966 Ford Mustang

This cool and lustrous car was introduced April 17, 1964 at the World’s Fair in New York City. In that one day alone, Ford had secured a massive 22,000 orders. It’s no surprise that everyone went crazy for this car, its great power and comfort made this a smooth ride.

1966 Shelby 427 Cobra

This Super Snake made history in 2007 after it fetched $5.5million at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction. When Carroll Shelby described what he aimed for when producing the Cobra, he explained on the Barrett-Jackson website that he wanted it to be the “fastest, meanest car on the road.”

Triumph Stag

This stylish car was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and introduced to the world in 1970. The Stag is as desirable to look at as it is to drive. The luxury sports car was electrifying and reached a top speed of 118mph.

Mini Cooper 1275S (1964-1971)

The Mini has always been a well-loved car. Even to this day, car fanatics try and get their hands on one of these beauties. It’s no wonder they’re so popular. This little Cooper won the Monte Carlo race three times which led to further models being produced until 2000. With its amazing hydrolastic suspension and its quirky style, this Mini is a wonderful combination of performance and affordability.

Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental

This vehicle was nicknamed “Star of India” after being owned by the Maharaja of Rajkot. If you’re not a fan of driving in the dark, this Rolls-Royce has 14 pairs of headlights, one pair which turns along with the steering wheel.

Porsche 914

This was the first Porsche to cause controversy for car lovers. This may be a Porsche, but the engine came from the Volkswagen 411, giving this car a nickname of “VW Porsche 914”. Although many people disagreed with Porche’s decision to do this, others loved it just for its design. Styled by Porsche, it’s estimated that around 120,000 were sold.

World's Fastest Car vs World's Fastest Bike

$

Cool pictures and videos of the world's fastest car vs world's fastest bike. It's between the 2010 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 vs. 2010 BMW S1000RR - usually in the bike vs car wars the guy on the bike loses. Will it be the same in this battle? Check out below to find out...

If anything is going to pass a Bugatti Veyron on the road, the BMW S 1000 RR is it!

When you're riding the fastest street bike on the road, most cars just fade into the distance. Then again, most cars don't have over 1,000 horsepower like the Bugatti Veyron

As fast as the BMW may be on the street, it can't match the Bugatti for sheer presence on the road.

You can't pull a wheelie in the Veyron!

I'm faster...no i'm faster!

Who's fastest? The Car..or the Bike?
Let's cut to the chase...excuse the pun! In a straight line the car and bike are neck and neck off the start and up to around 140 mph. However past 140mph, the Bugatti clears off into some netherworld of top speed where not even MotoGP bikes dare not venture.

Bike:
0-60 mph from a standstill in 3.0 seconds
Quarter-mile in 10.2 seconds.

Car:
0-60 mph from a standstill in 3.0 seconds
Quarter-mile in 10.2 seconds.
The 100 mph mark is reached in 5.5 seconds and of course the car doesn’t run out of steam until you get to 253 mph which is how the car wins.

We just wonder what the motorbike insurance cost would be on a BMW S1000RR vs Bugatti Veyron car insurance...we're guessing that insuring a Veyron which cost a whole lot more due to the simple fact that the Veyron costs $1.3 million more than the BMW S1000RR. If anyone reading this happens to own one of these cool vehicles and know the approx insurance per year, please comment below as we are dying to find out the cost.

The following picture if of my sunglasses with the original polarised lenses that came with the glasses.

I wanted to try out some black polarised lenses for my Oakley's from Revant. The lenses came quickly in the post and well packaged.

What came in the box - lenses and pouch

Here are the lenses up close

The original lenses were simple to pop out and replace with these new lenses within a half a minute. I was really impressed with everything and the lenses are great quality, allowing me to switch between the two lenses with no fuss.

How To Check Tyre Tread

$
0
0
Tyre tread has to be sufficiently deep to allow your car to come to a stop when you apply the brakes. Without sufficient tyre tread, your car’s wheels cannot displace water that is on the road properly and that means the likelihood that you end up aquaplaning dangerously is significantly increased.

In order to maintain good traction on the road’s surface means that the tread needs to be in excellent condition over the entire circumference of the tyre. If not, you can notice that the car fails to steer in a responsive way. This is a huge problem if you see a hazard in the road ahead of you and need to swerve as a result.

In the worst cases, lack of tread will mean that your tyre is bald and you end up skidding, with potentially disastrous results. Of course, driving with insufficient tread is illegal, so checking them regularly means you don’t have to worry about being stopped by the Police either.

Inspecting Tyres

Bridgestone suggests using a dedicated tread gauge which gives a fast and user-friendly reading.

Alternatively, simply inspecting your tyres will give you the best chance of seeing how the tread is bearing up. Needless to say, you need to do this in good light conditions when you can get near to the ground, so don’t do it at night or in the evening in winter. Equally, don’t try to do it in a car park, when your car is sandwiched between two other vehicles, because you cannot get a good view. As well as space either side, remember to have some back and forth space, too. This is so you can roll the car into a new position, allowing you to inspect the whole of each tyre. Never, leave out the portion that is out of sight on the tarmac.

Checking Tread

An easy way of checking tread depth is with a twenty pence piece.

1. Position the coin into the tyre’s grooves.

2. Look at the outer band of the coin. If you are able to insert the band into the tread so that you cannot see it, then tread depth is adequate.

3. If the band remains visible, then you should change your tyre for a new one. For ease of access, UK tyres dealer Point-S, offer an online reserve and fit system, so that you can book tyres online.

Here's a short video of using the 20p to test tyre tread:

Keep placing it into the grooves at regular gaps all the way around and remember to move your car so you can reach the part that is in contact with the ground.

As well as working around the circumference, you should check in positions all over the tyre’s width.

This chart will help you know what is good and bad tyre tread:

How To Find The Perfect Car To Fix Up And Mod

$
0
0
For many car enthusiasts, the perfect car is a labour of love. More than just a method of transportation, many consider their vehicle an extension of themselves. This sentiment is especially true for car enthusiasts who mod their rides, never overlooking the most finite details and customisations. Whether you’re planning on overhauling the engine, lowering the suspension or simply wanting to add cosmetic features, finding the perfect car to work on is easier than ever.

The big question is, how do you find that perfect make and model to call your own? In the past, people in this situation had to either scour through car lots or rely on fellow car enthusiasts for leads on available cars for sale. Both options limit the number of opportunities to find the ideal used car, let alone buy one. There are certain makes and models that have the capacity to stand the test of time both at a performance level and at a style level. Just like a crisp white shirt, the perfect vintage car never goes out of style.

The Subaru Imprezza WRX is a fan favourite when it comes to modded vehicles in terms of performance and style, but parts can be expensive.
Image sourced from Imgur.com

Here are a couple of modded WRX's sourced from Wikipedia:

Many will agree however, that Honda Civics are the best choice for fixing up and working on used cars. The car is simply the perfect blank canvas, in which you can add upgrades for speed, exhaust, style and engine power. Check out the Bugatti styled Civic...

However new cars are expensive and can lead to demanding leasing deals that stretch on for years, at which time your car has already decreased in value. If you’re looking to upgrade your ride, consider going online to find the raw material.

Image sourced from imgur.com

Online used car sites like Kijiji have a variety of cars and trucks that would be the perfect foundation for your new customised car. For example, a quick Google search of the best used Honda cars for sale in Toronto and the GTA will show premium Honda used cars, certified and E-tested, for as little as $1,800.

Once you’re able to purchase a reliable, efficient vehicle from an online seller, the limits of what you can do to your new car are endless, stopped only by your imagination. When it comes to originality and your car, there are endless possibilities of customising your ride, from the colour of the paint job to your choice of spoiler to the sound of your engine.

Popular culture (such as shows like Pimp My Ride and the movie series The Fast And The Furious) depict car customisation as mostly aesthetic – grills, hydraulics, a flashy paint job. But there are also ways to hack your engine for faster speeds and better exhaust, all in the name of getting the vehicle you would never be able to buy wholesale.

All in all, finding the perfect car is no easy task. Use the online buyers market to purchase an affordable foundation that you can build upon in your personal modifications. You’ll have the best of both worlds – a brand name vehicle you trust and recognise but one that no one else will have seen before.

Sponsored Video: What David Really Saw (After Dentist)

Chances are you've seen the hilarious viral video of the little boy, David, who's in the backseat as Dad drives him home from the dentist.

Poor David is trying to make heads or tails of his world as the effects of the feel-good medicine the dentist gave him begin to wear off.

If you haven't seen it, watch it over on YouTube here.

Bosch have created their own take on it and they've done a great job of interspersing events that help put David's reactions in context. In other words, you'll finally understand why David insists he has two fingers! Bosch also makes a great case for buying their window wipers!

See David's confusion explained by a granny kissing the car's windshield to within an inch of its life, then see the Bosch wipers make the lipstick disappear in one swish. There's monsters, snowmen and more. I could go into a lot more detail, but see it for yourself here:

Besides being funny, Bosch is marketing their Aerotwin with Power Protection Plus wipers. The Aerotwin with Power Protection Plus is amazingly versatile, combining fifteen different lengths and with four adapters, will fit ten different arms. This is six more than currently available with the multi-clip.

The blades are quick and easy to install. Designed for newer cars, it's as simple as choosing the right adapter, clipping on the blade and then put them together.

So do yourself two favours - watch David After the Dentist, then watch Bosch's take on it, and check out their Aerotwin wipers for your vehicle.

Introducing the Nissan Nismo GT-R

$

Back in 2007 Nissan first built and produced the GT-R, making it the successor to the extremely popular Skyline GT-R. The successor was powered by a 3.8-litre turbocharged engine that produced a staggering 473bhp and 588Nm of torque. After seven years of production and progressively upgrading year on year, Nissan decided that these kinds of figures just weren’t enough.

Introducing the GT-R Nismo, Nismo is the motorsports and performance division of Nissan Motor Company and since 1984 have been tinkering, tuning and engineering high powered engines for optimum performance, whether this is for track use only or high-performance models for sale to the general public.

Last year (2013) the Nismo GT-R clocked the fastest lap time of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. You can watch the video here:

The 2014 Nismo GT-R really is the summit of the family, its impeccable cornering abilities, eye-watering top speed and stunning super-car looks are the features that make this such a desirable vehicle to own. Like the previous model wasn’t capable enough, the Nismo division have pulled out all the stops to create an incredible 592bhp, 652Nm of torque and a 0-62 time of 2.6 seconds which keeps going right through to 200mph+.

It is clear to see every part of the GT-R Nismo, even the bolts that hold the wheels on has been built for one purpose and one purpose only, speed. More importantly the suspension has undergone tuning upgraded and now features custom-built Bilstein DampTronic shocks and a hollow rear anti-roll bar. Other Nismo upgrades see specially developed tyres unique to the GT-R, lightweight Carbon Fibre bodywork and rear wing which lowers the centre of gravity, adding 100kg of downforce at 300km/h. The upgraded bodywork portrays a vehicle with serious road presence, partly due to the added bonnet vents and race inspired 20inch alloy wheels. As a result of the upgrades the Nismo GT-R corners with precision and prowess that you don’t quite feel in the standard model.

The interior has seen some tasteful upgrade also, Alcantara wrapped steering wheel, red stitching and Nismo badges plastered everywhere, acting as a constant reminder to the performance behind the looks. Beefy racing bucket seats are also standard which use a clever electronic adjustment system to ensure your seating position is correct. They offer optimum support and comfort particularly when you want to throw the Nismo round corners.

Hydrogen Power! Introducing The New FCV From Toyota

Toyota have caused a stir in the motor industry as they have announced and revealed the addition of the FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle) to their range using hydrogen to power the car. It’s fierce yet eye catching exterior is set to seduce any car lover and make them curious as to what it can offer. Sales are to begin in Japan before April 2015, with Europe and the U.S next in line to stock the car.

A vehicle which runs off hydrogen may not appeal to everyone, but Toyota have certainly emphasised their commitment to environmentally friendly vehicles with the FCV. Running of hydrogen allows Toyota to promote the fact that when in use the FCV emits no CO2 or harmful substances - a truly eco-friendly drive has been created.

The car is kitted with a ‘fuel cell’ which generates electricity to power the car. The electricity is created by a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen - the electricity being an alternative fuel. Toyota have claimed the FCV has an impressive 310 mile range and only requires a 5 minute re-filling time, a figure which is significantly less than other zero emission cars in the automotive industry.

This following video from the LA Entertainment Summit provides a great overview of the Toyota FCV and talks about Hydrogen

Sleek and contemporary, the exterior of the car is kind to the eye and will most definitely look the part when on the roads. A similar theme continues to the inside of the car with every aspect having a futuristic look. Passengers are set to experience a comfortable ride due to the generous amount of leg room and space which has been created, making it the ideal mid-sized family car.

Its clear Toyota has implemented a technology intense cabin with features including; a twin screen display that operates other functionalities of the car, along with a 3d map and smartphone connectivity. Also present is Toyotas newest generation Driver awareness technology - claiming to help the driver work in harmony with the vehicle and establish a safer driving experience.

This intriguing design Toyota have created is clearly set to grab the interest of those in the motor industry, as well as those who have a strong commitment and dedication to the environment. If you fall in to either category or have a general interest in this polished new look Toyota are proud to present, why not visit www.burrowsmotorgroup.co.uk to satisfy your desire to find out more or visit the Toyota FCV section of their website.

4 Memorable Formula One Rivalries

$

It is a stretch to say this Formula One season has been competitive. From the get-go there has only been one car in it, the Mercedes. Defending champions Red Bull have gone off the boil, the Renault Energy F1-2014 engine in use lacks the power of the Mercedes PU106A Hybrid engine.

As for the landed gentry, Ferrari, this season is looking to be their worst season for some time. Their Team Principal Stefano Domenicali left the side in April after their horror show in Bahrain, whilst CEO Luca di Montezemolo has stepped down after 23-years at the helm. That’s been the story of F1 this season, the excitement also taking place off the asphalt and in the boardrooms.

The only reason this season has been saved from complete monotony is by Mercedes’ insistence of allowing their drivers: Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, to race, rather than burdening them with laborious team orders.

For that we owe Mercedes a great amount of gratitude. By taking the gamble and allowing their drivers to race free from shackles, they have given us one of the greatest F1 rivalries of all time. There have been plenty of near-misses, wheel-to-wheel racing and furious audio exchanges. What was once a harmonious relationship that stretched back to their days of junior karting has descended into animosity, as the two look to get their hands on the coveted Drivers’ Championship.

So without further adieu let us take a look at some of the best rivalries of F1 history.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) vs. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) 2014

Before this season the pair have always been jovial too each other, sharing a competitive but amiable relationship since their youth. How things change when you put some gold into the equation. Things went swimmingly for the Mercedes hierarchy until the third race of the season, Bahrain. Hamilton, starting second on the grid, overtook Rosberg on the second turn of lap 18 in a brazen, gung-ho move, a maneuver that Rosberg declared to be “over the line” - Hamilton went on to win the race after going wheel-to-wheel with his German teammate for the final 10 laps. The angry clenched fist from Rosberg during that overtake was a clear sign to come.

In the eyes of Lewis, Rosberg took his revenge at Monaco three races later. Qualifying at Monaco is far more important than the actual race itself; on a course which is notoriously hard to overtake your points are claimed in qualification, so imagine Hamilton’s horror when he is hurtling round on his fast lap only to see a yellow flag from the steward, ruining his hot lap. Rosberg ran wide on the final lap of qualifying causing him to abort the lap before reversing back over the racing line and onto the race track. Rosberg claimed, and the FIA accepted, that it was an innocuous mistake, to Hamilton as was as deliberate as deliberate could be. Rosberg won the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix.

And then came the mud-slinging, mainly from the mouth of Hamilton. He started by saying that Rosberg was not his friend but a “teammate”, as well as stating that he was the hungrier driver because of his relatively uncomfortable upbringing in comparison to the “jets and hotels and boats” that Rosberg had been accustomed to as the son of former-F1 racer Keke Rosberg, who based himself and his son in Monaco. The Brit again pointed to Rosberg’s early life before the German Grand Prix, claiming that as junior Rosberg would have the Monaco flag not the German flag hoisted on the podiums, a statement refuted by the German. Belgium proved to be the spark that detonated the powder keg. On the La Source corner of lap two a leading Hamilton was clipped by Rosberg.

Hamilton suffered an immediate puncture whilst Rosberg just a damaged wing. Unjustly, Hamilton did not finish whilst Rosberg finished second to extend the gap at the top to 29 points in his favour. In the aftermath Hamilton claimed that Rosberg had told him he had deliberately crashed into him. Again this was refuted but Mercedes Chairman Toto Wolff, who has greyed significantly this season, brought the hammer down on Rosberg, giving him a very stern lecture; something that the FIA again failed to deliver, and forcing him to publicly apologise to his stable mate.

Then at Monza, a track that offers so little attack-wise, we all thought the F1 season was over. Hamilton, who had bossed practice and qualifying, fell from 1st to 4th at the start of the race following a power failure. What proceeded to happen was one of the greatest individual drives in recent years. After reclaiming 2nd place on the ninth lap Hamilton proceeded to absolutely hurtle after Rosberg, who, on lap 29, missed the chicane, giving 1st to Hamilton. The British driver was a man on a mission that day, finding pace in areas never thought possible. Rosberg going off was probably the safe option as the mood Hamilton was in was one of pure ferocity and he would have had no qualms in forcing Rosberg off the track.

So that’s the tale of the tape so far. The rivalry is intense and it will continue to be so for the remaining six races. What is for sure is that it is going to be close, even the bookmakers are struggling to distinguish which of the two is the favourite but Betfair currently back Hamilton narrowly.

Mark Webber (Red Bull) vs, Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull)

Before even being paired with one another the two Red Bull drivers had a pretty frosty relationship. Ever since Sebastian Vettel went into the back of Mark Webber’s car in the torrential rain of Japan 2007, Mark’s had a chip on his shoulder when it comes to the “kid”.

In Turkey, 2010, it became clear who the favoured driver was in the Red Bull garage - going into the race the duo were joint leaders in the Drivers’ Championship. With 40 laps gone Vettel tried to pass Webber, who was leading, on the inside before turning into him, in what was a reprise of the Japan collision three years earlier. To the amazement of the motorsport world the management team of the Austrian sided with Vettel, leaving Webber rightly incredulous.

A driver of Webber’s standing was far too good to be used as a defensive foil for the young upstart from Germany. The Australian had grinded his way to the top whilst Vettel was fast-tracked, so of course Webber was resentful that his time at the top wouldn’t fully be fulfilled as he played second fiddle to Vettel.

Fast-forward to Silverstone of that year and you can really see how irksome things were becoming for Webber. According to David Tremayne of The Independent, Webber declared after his British Grand Prix victory that it was “not bad for a No. 2 driver” after being angered by the fact that the team took his front wing off and giving it to Vettel for the final stage of qualifying after he broke his and there were no spares. There were no major disputes in the 2011 and 2012 season but that was mainly due to the fact that Red Bull had quite clearly made Vettel their lead driver. Webber was there for back-up rather than to actively pursue.

At the final race of the 2012 season in Brazil, the Australian was asked to defend in order to ensure that Vettel would be taking home a third consecutive title; a policy that Red Bull would not force Vettel to undertake in 2010 when it was Webber going for the title. Webber, brilliantly in the eyes of many, did not defend against Fernando Alonso; Vettel’s title rival, whilst not letting Vettel through later on. It was petulance at is very best but considering his treatment by the time in 2010 well within Webber’s rights.

Then there was the infamous moment when Vettel threw his toys out of the pram, making himself look like a spoiled, little idiot in front of the whole racing world. With the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix coming to its conclusion, Red Bull ordered their drivers to conserve their cars and not race one-another, giving them a one-two and Webber the victory. Vettel had other ideas and passed Webber a little later on, blatantly disregarding team orders and robbing Webber of a deserved victory.

Speaking afterwards, Webber stated: “After the last stop the team told me that the race was over and we turned the engines down and go to the end. The team made their decision. Seb made his own decision and he will have protection as usual.”

Webber retired from F1 after that 2013 season but you can imagine he is taking a lot of enjoyment out of how his replacement and fellow Australian, Daniel Ricciardo, is outperforming Vettel in nearly every race.

James Hunt (McLaren) vs. Niki Lauda (Ferrari) 1976

One of the greatest rivalries in the Formula One tomes, and also one of the greatest sporting movies in living memory - if you haven’t seen Ron Howard’s Rush then you really are missing out. The reason why Rush is such a good film is that the battle between the two in 1976 was so far-fetched that it could have been penned by any Hollywood big shot. With his flowing blond hair, chiselled good looks, flamboyant persona and wild playboy antics it was nigh on impossible to dislike James Hunt. Niki Lauda was the polar opposite. Christened “The Rat” due to his facial features, Lauda was methodical, calculated, ruthless and 100 per cent committed to his profession.

The pair actually got on pretty well off the track but on it, neither could stand the thought of coming second to the other. With tensions already high after Hunt was stripped of his British Grand Prix victory for a benign mistake, Lauda suffered a horrific accident in the next race at the Nurburgring, a race he urged his fellow drivers to boycott amidst safety concerns, losing control of his car and crashing into the barriers. The Austrian driver was trapped in the flaming car for over 30 seconds, and was fighting for his life. Hunt won the race. The intensity of the rivalry was the driving force behind Lauda’s return to the car after missing just two races. Here was a guy that had horrific and excruciatingly painful burns on his face yet he was willing to put a helmet on, for nothing more than stopping Hunt from winning the Drivers’ Championship.

The pulsating season came to an end in Japan. In what was one of the wettest races in F1 history Lauda voluntarily retired after two laps, Hunt finished the race in third to win the championship by a point. It was a rivalry built around mutual respect and a love of winning. Never before and never again we will see such a unique Formula One season.

Alain Prost (McLaren) vs. Ayrton Senna (McLaren) 1989

When McLaren brought Ayrton Senna into the side in 1989 it seemed like a logical decision, partnered with Alain Prost they had assembled the greatest F1 side in history.

You needn’t look any further that the stats for confirmation. The duo swept all that was before them in 1989 as they dominated the Drivers’ Championship and McLaren breezed to the Constructors’ Championship. But the relationship was tumultuous, not helped in San Marino when Senna ignored a pre-race agreement not to pass after the first corner when Prost had taken the lead, and came to a head in Japan. With Prost leading the world championship and Senna needing to beat him to take the crown, the Brazilian dived up the inside at the final chicane. Prost conspired to turn in, the pair collided. Prost was out on the spot, but Senna continued.

He won but was later disqualified after being accused of receiving an illegal push from marshals and of taking a shortcut through the chicane, rather than dangerously swing around and rejoin with oncoming F1 cars. Prost moved onto Ferrari for the next season but even that couldn’t stop the two again clashing. The pair again were at loggerheads in Japan in 1990 with the title on the line. As they sped into Turn 1 for the first time, Senna moved to the inside to attempt an adventurous overtake, which he did, darting past Prost. The Scientist looked to give the Brazilian room at first but then jinked right to block gim at the final second, with disastrous consequences. The collided and both retired meaning that Senna won the title. The animosity levels between these two were crazy high. They were two great competitors that couldn’t deal with losing. But despite their lack of friendship with each other there was a huge amount of mutual respect.

It’s been said that us Brits spend over 3,000 hours of our lives shaving which works out at shaving 20,000 times. That is five months of our lifetime spent shaving. I’m sure you’ll agree that this time could be spent to better use!

If you think back over the years in Formula One racing - there has only been a handful of drivers with facial hair. One name springs to mind and that is Nigel Mansell and that epic moustache. After Mansell's official retirement from Formula One in 1995, he shaved off his well known moustache but made a re-appearance when he was interviewed by the BBC at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. But apart from that I’m struggling. The Russian Grand Prix last weekend - Hamilton, Rosberg, Button, Bottas….they are all very clean shaven. Why is this? Perhaps facial hair and racing helmets don’t go together well. If anyone knows the real reason why this is, drop a comment below, we’d love to hear from you.

Those clean shaving racing drivers must be thankful of the past few years as shaving technology has come a long way thanks to the likes of Wilkinson Sword. There have been many prototypes out there and cars that supposedly drive themselves or just have lane assist which is helpful but you cannot really consider that automated driving because it is very dangerous and not meant to replace the driver. Introducing, the Audi RS 7 Concept actually drives by itself!

Rinaldo Capello won Le Mans three times and he is also a test driver for Audi. His new competition on the race track is this automated Audi. As seen in the video, the Audi RS 7 Concept catches up to Rinaldo Capello who is going at top speed and Rinaldo is wondering who his new competition is. He looks at the car almost passing him and sees there is absolutely no one in the car. The Audi RS 7 Concept is going at extremely high speeds on a race track and nearly beats Rinaldo Capello.

Even through the sharp turns on the race track, the Audi concept is driving even better than a trained race car driver. It is named the world's best performing driverless car. This is a new level of automated cars and Audi is out in front of so many other car brands that are trying to do the same thing. Audi has perfected it.

Can you imagine a world full of these cars? The Audi RS 7 Concept is going to change the future of the auto industry and life as we know it on the road. Once we have burst the bubble of automated driving, who knows what is going to happen next. The Audi RS 7 Concept's future is very bright and this is just the start of the automated driving industry.

Now, it is possible for race cars to be driverless. What is this going to do to the racing industry? We do not know what the future is going to behold but it sure is exciting to see these futuristic ventures coming true. The Audi RS 7 Concept is the future and we are lucky to be able to ride along with it.
